While the entire aristocracy attends a grand society ball in London, a party is taking place in Wimple Castle, during which the servants are masquerading as lords. The family of the rich whisky manufacturer Potter is invited to the party, whose wife would oh so gladly wish to belong to better society and because of whom, he's bought a castle out in the countryside. Potter's daughter Mary gets to know the young Lord Robert Spiller, who doesn't bother to tell her he's nobility, but instead plays the part of a servant.

Während die gesamte Aristokratie zu einem großen Gesellschaftsball nach London fährt, steigt auf Schloss Wimple ein Fest, bei dem sich die Diener als Herrschaften ausgeben. Eingeladen wird auch die Familie des reichen Whiskyherstellers Potter, dessen Frau gerne der feinen Gesellschaft angehören möchte, und der sich deshalb erst vor kurzem ein Schloss auf dem Land zugelegt hat. Potters Tochter Mary lernt den jungen Lord Robert Spiller kennen, der sich ihr aber nicht als Adliger zu erkennen gibt, sondern seinerseits einen Diener spielt.
