In the 1950s, it was highly unusual to find a lady-mayor anywhere in Germany. Dr. Fanny Becker, however, is an experienced attorney and it was for that reason that she was elected to the office in Rosenburg. After taking up the post, however, she's quickly faced with a very controversial matter, namely, a castle which the town has inherited. The opposition wants to sell off the building to an industrial firm and see a profit out of it; but Fanny and her supporters are intent on turning the edifice into a venue for a music festival. 

Eine Frau als Bürgermeisterin ist schon recht ungewöhnlich im Deutschland der 1950er Jahre: Aber Dr. Fanny Becker ist eine kommunalpolitisch erfahrene Juristin, weshalb sie zur Oberbürgermeisterin von Rosenburg gewählt wird. Direkt nach Amtsantritt hat sie sich mit einer äußerst umstrittenen Angelegenheit zu befassen, nämlich einem Schloss, das die Stadt erbte. Die Opposition will das Bauwerk gewinnbringend an ein Industrieunternehmen verkaufen, Fanny und ihre Partei hingegen möchten das Gemäuer als Schauplatz für Musikfestspiele herrichten lassen.
