With the First World War raging in all its horror in Europe, German officer Alexander falls in love with a girl from Flanders.  But then he's wounded and evacuated from the front lines.  Only years later, in 1917, is he able to return to the Western Front and the village, where he fell in love.  In the interim, however, the young woman's been accused of sabotage and sent to a penal camp.  Will Alexander be able to prevent the girl from falling into the hands of Death, so shortly before the War is to come to an end?  

Der Erste Weltkrieg tobt in seinem vollen Grauen und der deutsche Offizier Alexander verliebt sich ausgerechnet in eine junge Frau aus Flandern. Doch dann wird er verletzt und muss die Front verlassen. Erst Jahre später, im Jahr 1917 kehrt er in das Dorf zurück, auf der Suche nach seiner Liebe. Doch die junge Frau wird der Sabotage verdächtigt und in ein Straflager transportiert. Kann es Alexander schaffen, seine Liebe vor dem sicheren Tod zu bewahren, so kurz, wie das Ende des Krieges bevorsteht?
