The film begins with prisoners being led away by Soviet soldiers near Leningrad. These are Spanish troops from the Blue Division, and among them are four lieutenants and a captain. They are sent to a POW camp, but don't stay there for long, as they repeatedly express Falangist political views and insult Communism. After a rather ad hoc courtmartial, the officers are sent to a concentration camp, where they meet other Spaniards sent there for the same reason. The Soviets offer these men the alternative of remaining slaves or freedom, if they renounce their Spanish citizenship and become Soviets.

La película comienza con la imagen de unos prisioneros llevados por unos soldados rusos; estos soldados prisioneros pertenecen a la División Azul, y entre ellos van cuatro tenientes y un capitán. Se les interna en un campo de concentración. Por presentar en más de una ocasión sus actitudes políticas falangistas, y por insultar al comunismo, se les traslada a una cárcel, con una pena de veinticinco años. Allí encuentran a más camaradas españoles, que han sido encarcelados por lo mismo. Los soviéticos les presentan la alternativa de perder la nacionalidad española y pasar a formar parte del ejército ruso.
