Wien, 1951: Ferdinand Godai ist Professor für Operette an der Akademie. Für ein Kostümfest als Dienstmann verkleidet, landet er in weinseliger Laune beim Südbahnhof. Dort trifft er auf Anton Lischka, einen echten Wiener Dienstmann von aufbrausendem Gemüt, der ihn um kollegiale Hilfe bittet. Dabei verliebt sich Ferdinand in die süße Gabi, die sich als neue Kollegin an der Akademie entpuppt. Einige widrige Umstände zwingen ihn dazu, sein kompliziertes Doppelleben als unechter Dienstmann und echter Professor fortzusetzen. Auch Lischka, der sich mehr und mehr über die Unbeholfenheit seines “Kollegen” aufregt, wird in das Verwirrspiel miteinbezogen. Nur Gabi durchschaut den Schwindel und trägt sogar zu dessen Ausweitung bei, um ihrem geliebten Professor-Dienstmann eine Lektion in Frauenlist zu erteilen. 

Vienna, 1951: Ferdinand Godal is a professor of operettas at the academy.  Dressed as a railwayman for a costume party, he ends up blissfully drunk on wine at Vienna’s Südbahnhof.  There he meets Anton Lischka, an actual Viennese railwayman with a bad temper, who asks his “colleague” for help.  In doing so, Ferdinand falls in love with the sweet Gabi, who turns out to be a newly-hired colleague at the academy.  Some adverse circumstances force him to continue his complicated dual-existence as a phony railwayman and a real professor.  Even Lischka, who’s getting more and more upset over the ineptitude of his “colleague” gets pulled into the confusion.  Only Gabi’s able to see through the deception and contributes to its expansion to teach the professor/railwayman a lesson in womanly cunning.
