Michele Apicella, Goffredo, Mirko and Vito are four highschool friends who are on the forefront of the political protests that characterized the second half of the 1960s. Now a few years older, the four friends are no longer politically active and struggle to come to terms with the present. Intellectually marginalized and disenchanted with contemporary society, they form a collective consciousness group to try to understand what to do with themselves. Another friend, Cesare, decides to join them although he has mixed feelings about the whole experience, leading a relatively comfortable life. Things change when Michele starts a relationship with Cesare's girlfriend Flaminia.
The fates of various characters become interlaced over a long and light-filled Summer night in the Finnish countryside. Lumberjacks, a deer-eyed young man Nokia, a family of poor farmers, a young girl and her lover... New life is born, old life dies, man is slain in his prime, and his widow continues her life.
In the village of Holfen, a number of young women are found stabbed to death by what is determined to be an ancient dagger with a curved and rusty blade. The superstitious locals believe the murders to be the fulfillment of a curse placed on them in the 17th century by Baron von Klaus, a sadistic libertine, who killed many women before dying in the swamps surrounding his castle. A sprawling, disturbing, and bizarre epic about the clash of societies within the territory of a Japan rapidly modernizing. On the southern island of Karuge, where ancient tribal customs and animistic worship rituals sill hold most of the inhabitants in a strong grip, an outsider arrivers to convert the island's arable land into a sugar cane plantation and to exploit its inherent value as a future tourist destination. However, the forces of commerce and technology are ill-prepared to deal with the islanders' stubborness or the complex myths and taboos which compel them to live as they do.
Three Hairs was the name of a popular comic character, a street urchin with a bald head save for three thin stalks sticking straight up towards the sky. After a night on the streets, Three Hairs looks for work wherever he can get it; he polishes shoes, picks up garbage and even sells newspapers, but finally decides to give up. He puts a "For Sale" sign on his back and goes looking for a buyer. The war had left literally millions of homeless children in China, and Three Hair's misadventures in the comics were widely read as a rebuke to the government for their neglect of this problem.
Set in the 1950s, The Dupes traces the destinies of three different men brought together by their dispossession, their despair and their hope for a better future. The protagonists are Palestinian refugees who are trying to make their way across the border from Iraq into Kuwait, the 'Promised Land,' concealed in the steel tank of a truck. Representing different dimensions of the Palestinian experience, each one believes he can make a new life for himself, but as the film s title suggests, their flight is no solution. One of the first Arab films to address the Palestinian question, 'The Dupes' is based on the 1962 novella 'Men in the Sun' by assassinated Palestinian writer, artist and resistance leader, Ghassan Kanafani. Set in Palestine and Iraq, and filmed in Syria by Tewfik Saleh, an Egyptian director, the film was banned in several Arab countries due to its implied criticisms of Arab governments.

THE GERMAN CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1990) * with hard-encoded English subtitles * .
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, banned in Germany (no doubt as potentially dangerous, sort of like romantic comedies from 1942), led the creator of the German Chainsaw Massacre to make his own version after watching bootleg versions of the American horror film. It took 14 days to make the film and was done almost immediately after the Wall came down in Berlin. In the film, bizarre West German murderers see low cost meat in the East Germans moving over the old boundary into the West and start turning them into sausage. Clara flees her sleazy spouse and the rotting East, and lands in the arms of the butchers. She is kept alive simply because the daughter of the family falls in love with her. Who knew that some 4% of the Ossies heading to the Golden West never arrived at their destination, but were instead turned into Wurst?
Disappointed by the marriage of her lover to a woman he does not love, prostitute Harumi drifts from the city to a remote Japanese outpost in Manchuria to work in a "comfort house," or brothel, during the Sino-Japanese War. The commanding adjutant there takes an immediate liking to the new girl, but she is fascinated by and comes to love Mikami, the officer's aide. At first, he is haughty and indifferent to the girl, which enrages her; but they are eventually drawn together. Abused and manipulated, she seeks solace in Mikami's arms. They carry on a clandestine affair, which is a dangerous breach of code for both of them.

Among the thousands of refugees who flock to Berlin at the end of the First World War is the family of a Polish professor and what follows is a terrific struggle for existence. They manage to get a place to live, but their combined resources and the high prices of food during the Great Inflation result in their only being able to get a potato each. Thus, for long periods of time, they have to subsist on horse turnips. Despite this, the love of one son, Paul, for his cousin Inga is so great that they are determined to overcome all obstacles. Inga works overtime in one place and collects a pitiful supply of things for their new home; Paul builds a little hut and finds a little allotment where he grows enough potatoes to keep them through the winter. All is rosy and they start to harvest their little crop, but they are followed by workmen who have been made beasts through hunger.

A journalist in Quebec is struggling with the question of whether to change society or accept it as it is. An American girl, an actress who runs a theatre, does not share the troubles suffered by the young man. This is, perhaps, unfortunate, for the journalist leaves Montreal for the countryside to reflect on his life and, with this increased distance between them, the love they once had for one another undergoes radical changes.
DESIRE (1936): Madeleine steals a string of pearls in Paris and uses an American engineer, who is driving on his vacation to Spain, to get the pearls out of France. But getting the pearls back from him proves to be difficult without falling in love.
BLOND CHEAT (1938): Socially prominent Michael Ashburn, is the chief assistant to Rufus Trent, a wealthy London loan broker. He has allowed himself to become engaged to the Rufus' daughter, Roberta, the match engineered primarily by socially-ambitious Mrs. Trent. As Michael is closing the shop in the late afternoon, a man named Douglas takes out a large loan, using his niece's earring as a deposit. He scurries right off with the money but, to his dismay, Michael finds that the earrings are fastened to Julie's ears and cannot be removed.
MICKEY (1918): Mickey is an orphan who has been raised since girlhood in poverty near Feather River, California, by an unsuccessful miner, Joe Meadows, and his housekeeper, Minnie. She was the free-spirited, uncultured daughter of the miner's deceased partner. Joe took charge of Mickey at her dying mother's request. Mickey is sent to live in Great Neck, Long Island with her aunt, Mrs. Drake, and her family. Mrs. Drake is under the impression that Mickey is wealthy and well-refined. When Mickey arrives at her aunt's luxurious home, she is disappointed that Mickey is not well-to-do and puts her to work as a servant. Mickey's presence there sparks an awkward love triangle involving her, her cousin Elsie, and young mining executive Herbert Thornhill, whom Mickey first met in California.

MYSTERIOUS MISS X (1939): Keith Neville and Dan Casey, two small-time actors, are traveling by bus back to New York City, and have an overnight stay in a small town. They take a room in a local hotel and a murder is committed in an adjoining room. Keith hears the gunfire, goes to investigate, and is there when the local police arrive. He and Casey are both held on suspicion of murder and jailed. While a local policeman is going through their luggage at the hotel, he discovers a letter of introduction, in Keith's suitcase, that reads: "It is requested that all official courtesy be extended to Mr. Geoffrey Desmond, Chief Inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department of the London Matropolitan Police, during his journey on a dangerous secret mission." The letter is a stage-prop from the play the two actors had just performed in, but the Police Chief thinks it is real and releases them from jail.
SUBMARINE ALERT (1943): Spies use a stolen shortwave transmitter prototype to broadcast top secret shipping info to an offshore submarine. To nab the spy ring, the government has the West Coast's top radio engineers fired and shadowed.
TWO FILM DVD: MAGYAR REKVIEM (1990) + AGITATOROK (1971)
MAGYAR REKVIEM (1990): In 1958, five men, condemned to death for their roles in the 1956 Hungarian revolt against Soviet rule, relive their recollections and now no-longer realizable aspirations.
AGITATOROK (1971): In the Soviet Republic of Hungary in 1919, the propagandists of the Communist Party have to face the problems of the dictatorship of the proletariat. As the situation worsens, they choose different solutions to cope with their issues.
After the rejection of their latest preposterous scenario, two scriptwriters get back to basics to prepare a new movie. The new scenario centers on Henriette, a pretty, lively Parisian, and how she spends the 14th of July in Paris with her fianc e. We follow the tribulations of Henriette as various other characters enter the story and turn a traditional festive day into something more adventurous than expected.
Prince Ehtejab, one of the last remaining heirs of the Qajar royal family, is suffering from tuberculosis, which he knows is fatal. He spends his last days alone in the magnificent rooms of his wintry palace, from where he recollects the glory days of his ancestors as well as days of degradation. Following the truce between Italy and the Allies in World War II, German forces occupy Naples and begin to shoot resisters; demolish port facilities; and round up young men to be transported to Germany as forced labor. The city's population, aware that Allied forces are close and determined to disrupt the deportations, revolt against the Germans, following the public execution of an Italian sailor. This sparks a spontaneous insurrection among the Neapolitans who, despite their limited arms and organization, force the Germans to retreat from the city just before Allied troops arrive from the Salerno beachhead.
Wolfgang from Berlin is on vacation in R gen and enjoys playing with the local children in a blown-up beachside bunker. When the children discover an old shipwreck off the coast, they take a boat out one night to explore. Bert Harkus has been promoted to command an artillery regiment, after having studied at a military academy for four years. His friend, Lieutenant Colonel Kurt Weber has impatiently been waiting for his arrival. But not 24 hours after working together, a situation has arisen which will test their friendship. In the following days, unrest and tension will mark the progression of an exercise meant to determine how the regiment would respond to an emergency and whether it would be ready for battle in a timely fashion.

Part 1 - Target Peenemunde: The German Army has been working in great secret on a ballistic rocket since 1936, with the goal of using it in a war expected to begin in the near future. In 1939, the anti-fascist scientist Dr. Kummerow sends an anonymous report to the English embassy in Oslo; a report which has been ignored in London for years. Resistance groups in France, Poland and Germany, on the other hand, are trying to find the trail leading to Hitler's "Wonder Weapon". Borawski, a Varsovian, is snuck into the secret project at Peenemunde. A Polish cleaning lady for the scientist Grunwald and the scientist's guard, Drager (who is later successfully recruited to assist the Resistance) help Borawski accomplish his task. After resistance members pass on further materials, London decides, maybe it would be best to bomb the place. Part 2 - Password Paperclip: The Allied bombing raid causes great damage. However, it doesn't do much to stop the production of the dreaded rockets. Among the casualties of the British raid is Grunwald's girlfriend and the cleaning lady. Having experienced pangs of conscience for a while already, Grunwald decides to assist the Resistance. The manufacturing of the rockets are now moved from Peenemunde to an underground factory in the Harz Mountains, which was prepared long before the move. The Anti-Fascists attempt to cripple the rockets with sabotage. They do this, even though brutal reprisals by the SS thin their ranks. Little does the Resistance know, however, that the leader of the rocket program has made an arrangement with the advancing Americans to work for them as an expert.

August 1961. The former Foreign Legionnaire, King, has collected a gang of hooligans, with whom he creates mischief in the DDR. After some careless work on a construction site, an event during which two people lose their lives, they move to a campsite on the Baltic Sea. With sputtering mopeds, loud radios, and occasional outbursts, the gang makes the vacationers' lives living hell. Unfortunately for them, Lieutenant Czernik discovers the connection between them and the accident at the construction site. To stop them from fleeing to West Berlin, Lieutenant Czernik and the police need to arrest them, one at a time, with King being the last.

In 1917, shortly after the October Revolution, the Communist Party sends a former tsarist officer as commander and a pretty young woman commissar aboard the cruiser Emperor Paul to consolidate political power and convert the sailors, who have embraced anarchism, into an effective fighting force. Despite the opposition of the anarchist "Boss," the crew, who at first abuse the commissar, are gradually won over. The ship sails to the Black Sea. The woman's courage and the corrupt actions of the Boss and his mute henchman, "Husky," cause the crew to rethink their anarchism.
During his summer holiday, Kawasaki Ryuichi, a handsome engineer in his late twenties, visits his teacher and mentor, Professor Inagaki, at his seaside home. There he meets the professor's lovely young wife, Sachiko, and is unsettled by the striking resemblance she bears to his wife, who died three years earlier. Attracted to Sachiko, he does his best to hide his feelings. The couple, however, senses a deep-seated melancholy in him. Attributing it to the loss of his wife, they urge him to marry their niece, Kaoru, but he is not interested. Shortly after, Fumiko , Sachiko's older sister, realizes that Sachiko and Kawasaki have feelings for each other, but she holds her tongue. One day Kawasaki, Sachiko, and Kaoru go boating when a storm forces them to stay overnight at a hotel. Unable to sleep, Kawasaki takes a walk along the beach where he finds Sachiko, also unable to sleep.

Tightrope walker Tibul is in love with beautiful Suok. The beginning of the Great Patriotic War until the middle of the winter of 1941/42 is portrayed in this film. Ivan Sintsov is a correspondent with an army newspaper. The war starts while he is on vacation with his wife. He tries to return to his unit which is located in western Byelorussia; however, it is impossible, since the unit has been overrun by the advancing Germans. Near the town of Borisov, he meets another officer, also trying to reach his unit. They stop a car going in the direction they need. As the officer stops the car, a German air raid begins. A direct hit blows up the officer and the car he stops. Sintsov continues his journey alone. He is eventually assigned to a military newspaper, located in Mogilev and, later, another near Yelnia. The movie describes his work as a war correspondent during these trying times.

Composer Edvard Grieg is struggling to get his music noticed by other musicians and publishers in Norway and Denmark. Grieg wants to write lyrical music representing his country. He gradually promotes his works with the help of composer and friend Rikard Nordraak. During these early years (the 1860's), Norway wasn't especially looking for a composer of nationalistic music. In the film, Grieg complains about the lack of local interest in Norwegian folk music. An old flame helps subsidize a series of concerts for Grieg. He then applies for a travel grant, and his wife Nina befriends a local pianist, who then writes a letter to Franz Liszt on Grieg's behalf. Grieg receives the grant, and leaves for Rome, while Nina remains in Norway.
In 1941, the British Admiralty is worried about the large number of Allied ships being destroyed in the Pacific Ocean by a mysterious enemy vessel. Initially, British Admiral Russell suspects that a German submarine is the culprit. However, the few revealed pieces of the mystery point to a German Navy surface warship. The British don't know it yet, but the enemy ship in question is the German raider Atlantis commanded by Captain Rogge. His success in sneaking upon unsuspecting enemy vessels is due in large part on Atlantis' ability to disguise itself as a benign, non-combatant, neutral ship. To achieve this ruse, the Atlantis uses props, camouflage, paint, fake foreign flags and even theatrical costumes for its crew to make itself appear something it's not. When the Atlantis is close to its prey, it reveals its true identity and opens fire sinking the duped victim. Finally realizing the truth, Admiral Russell decides to set traps in order to persuade the Atlantis to reveal its position to a task-force of British warships laying in ambush .But first, Admiral Russell must gain Atlantis' confidence by pretending he's sending messages from the German Navy High Command.

Fearing discovery by the retreating German forces, they dare not leave the forest, even when their food runs low.
