Auf der Musikhochschule haben sich Anna und Joachim Alt kennengelernt und nach ihrem Abschluss als Meisterschüler geheiratet. Die Zukunft sieht vielversprechend aus für das begabte Paar: Während Anna als Konzertpianistin Erfolge feiert, erhält Joachim für seine Klaviersinfonie den renommierten Mozartpreis. Doch das Künstlerleben hat auch seine Schattenseiten. Joachim etwa verfällt in Depressionen, weil es ihm nicht gelingt, seine zahllosen musikalischen Inspirationen einzuordnen und in eine große Sinfonie zu verwandeln. Anna wird indes zu einer Konzertreise verpflichtet, was Joachim mit tobender Eifersucht beobachtet.

Anna and Joachim got to know each other at the academy of music and after completing their courses with distinction, got married.  The future looks very promising for the talented pair:  While Anna celebrates success as a concert pianist, Joachim receives the coveted Mozart Price for his piano symphony.  But artistic life has its dark sides, too:  Joachim becomes depressed, because he’s unable to convert his countless musical inspirations into the one great symphony of his life.  Anna, for her part, is obliged to go on concert tours, which Joachim witnesses with ever growing jealousy.
