Once a year, the fair comes for one day to the little town 'Sainte-Severe-sur-Indre'. But it's every day, that its residents laugh at Francois, the postman, which he doesn't seem to notice. One day, Francois takes charge of raising a flag pole in town, which nearly turns into a catastrophe. Nevertheless, people tell him this is an absolutely essential task. The sneering doesn't stop the next evening, when the festival's in full swing. After making Francois drunk, some 'friends' persuade him to watch a short-movie in a tent. This film is a stunt-show, advertised as, 'The Modern Delivery Techniques of the US Postman. Francois takes it serious, not recognizing he's being teased yet again. Next day, after getting sober in a goods wagon, he reorganizes his own delivery methods. He hasn't the equipment, like they show in the stunt film; but using only his bicycle, he makes progresses.
