Sigrid Mansfeld, the moody top actress of the city theatre Eisneburg, threatens to let the premier of the latest piece, “The Girlfriend of a Great Man” flop. Since this would mean the ruin of the theatre, she’s positive that they’ll come crawling on their knees to her and beg her to reconsider. But then the famous Berlin actress Ellen Roland is stuck in Eisenburg after an auto accident. When she hears the theatre’s problem, she tries out for the role as a rookie under the name Marga Koehler. She’s hired and the premiere is a tremendous success.

Sigrid Mansfeld, die launenhafte Hauptdarstellerin des Stadttheaters Eisenburg, droht die Premiere des neuen Stückes "Die Freundin eines großen Mannes" platzen zu lassen. Da dies den Ruin des Theaters bedeuten würde, ist sie sicher, dass man bald auf Knien zu ihr angekrochen kommen und sie bitten wird, ihre Entscheidung rückgängig zu machen. Da aber wird die bekannte Berliner Schauspielerin Ellen Roland durch einen Autounfall nach Eisenburg verschlagen.Als sie von den Problemen des Theaters hört, bewirbt sie sich unter dem Namen Marga Köhler als Anfängerin für die Rolle. Sie wird angenommen, und die Premiere ein Riesenerfolg.
