The horse-slaughterer Knallkopp, the landlord of the Berlin coachman Pietsch, wants to take away Pietsch's old horse, because he is late with his rent payments and the slaughtering of the horse will solve his rent debts. Only little Marie, the flower girl on Potsdamer Platz, is trying to raise money to help Pietsch and save the horse.

Roßschlächter Knallkopp, Hauswirt des Berliner Droschenkutschers Pietsch, will dem Kutscher wegen hoher Mietschulden seinen alten Gaul wegnehmen, um mit dem Schlachterlös des Pferdes an sein Geld zu kommen. Nur Mariechen, die Blumenverkäuferin vom Potsdamer Platz, versucht Geld aufzunehmen, um Pietsch zu helfen.
