In einem großen Unternehmen ist Axel ein unbedeutender kleiner Angestellter ohne Ehrgeiz. Er liebt das stille private Glück. Ganz anders empfindet seine junge Frau Uschi, die möchte, dass er Karriere macht. Es gelingt ihr, eine Einladung zu einer großen Gesellschaft im Hause des Generaldirektors zu ergattern. Doch sie verliert dort ein wertvolles Schmuckstück, das sie nur geliehen hatte.

In a rather large company, Axel is an unimportant, small employee with little ambition.  He loves this subdued and unnoticed life at work.  His wife, on the other hand, wants him to build a career for himself.  She succeeds in getting them an invitation to a party being thrown by the director of the firm.  But while there, she loses a valuable piece of jewelry, which she borrowed from someone else.
