In Venice at the time of the Doges, a series of crimes has paralyzed the populace with extreme fear. These crimes always occur with the appearance of a mysterious gondola, dubbed "The Devil's Gondola". First suspected is a screechy gondolier who suddenly seems to have obtained lots and lots of ducats; next, the boyfriend of the daughter of the howling boatsman is accused of committing the murders. However, the real culprit is actually a big anchovy in the Doge's palace!
