Prominent film, which made Prussian militarism into a joke  (though no one would be laughing anymore about it within a decade):  In the garrison city of Flowinkel, the city mayor Hoffmann and the battalion commander von Faber are constantly at each other's throats, not the least because the proud soldiers spend more time looking for wives than on drill.  The latest high drama concerns the mayor's maid, Auguste, who's been made pregnant by an unknown soldier and the situation escalates between the inn and the barracks' courtyard.  In the end, Auguste finds the right man, even if he isn't the kid's father.

Prominent besetzte Posse, die den preußischen Militarismus als Lachnummer inszeniert: In der Garnisonsstadt Flowinkel geraten Bürgermeister Hoffmann und Bataillonskommandeur von Faber ständig aneinander, nicht zuletzt weil die wenig stolzen Soldaten mehr Zeit auf Brautschau denn auf Exerzieren verwenden.Spätestens als Hoffmanns Hausmädchen Auguste von einem unbekannten Soldaten ein Kind erwartet, eskaliert die Situation zwischen Wirtshaus und Kasernenhof. Am Ende findet Auguste den Richtigen, auch wenn es nicht der Vater ihres Kindes ist.
