Josette and Pierre survive as happy, but completely broke lovers in Paris. Through a series of absurd coincidences, they get to know Professor Trouhadec, who's finding himself in a precarious situation: because he believed the travelogues of the adventurer Broudier, he extensively talks about the city of Donogoo Tonka in his book about South America. He then regretfully discovers afterwards, that the city doesn't exist. In order to save the professor's reputation, Josette and Pierre decide to simply establish the missing city ... unaware, that they are on the threshold of a crazy adventure.

Josette und Pierre leben als glückliches, aber völlig mitteloses Liebespaar in Paris. Durch eine Verkettung absurder Zufälle machen sie Bekanntschaft mit Professor Trouhadec, der sich in einer prekären Situation befindet: Weil er den Reiseberichten des Glücksritters Broudier glaubte, hat er in seinem Buch über Südamerika ausführlich von der Stadt Donogoo Tonka erzählt, nur um später zu erfahren, dass der Ort in Wirklichkeit gar nicht existiert. Um den Ruf des Professors zu retten, entschließen sich Josette und Pierre kurzerhand, die fehlende Stadt zu gründen – nicht ahnend, dass sie damit am Anfang eines aberwitzigen Abenteuers stehen.
