The estate owner Adalbert vn Waldenau and his son Peter go to the theatre, whose star is the operetta singer Ilona Ratkay.  Peter gets to know Ilona and falls in love with her.  In the meantime, the theater director spreads the rumor, that Ilona is the daughter of a famous Hungarian dancer.  Upon hearing about this, Ilona leaves the theatre in a huff and accepts Peter’s invitation to visit his parents’ estate.  In the interim, Peter’s father hears the rumor and believes Ilona might be his daughter, as he had an affair with an Hungarian dancer years before.
