THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. MEADE (1938):

Doctor Meade, while taking a vacation in the mountain country of Kentucky, comes across Doctor Hazard and his nurse Bonnie, who substitute herbs and folklore for medicine. When a typhoid epidemic is shrugged off by Hazard as a mere summer ailment, Meade takes on the task of overcoming superstition, opposition, ignorance and herbal remedies, in order to save lives. And nearly gets lynched in the process.

MANSLAUGHTER (1930):

A spoiled rich girl is sent to prison for accidentally running down a pedestrian. There, she learns about a life and people she had never even imagined existed. Upon her release, she realizes that she's in love with the District Attorney who reluctantly prosecuted her case; a man who was in love with her, but she had previously scorned him.
