The Brest railway station, situated on the border between Poland and Belarus, is a transit hub steeped in history and marked by some of the 20th century’s most profound upheavals. It was here that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Line once ran, dividing the invaded Poland of 1939 into zones of Nazi and Soviet occupation. Two years later, the site became part of the initial front line of Germany’s war of aggression against the Soviet Union. *Vokzal – Bahnhof Brest* portrays uprooted individuals spanning several generations: from a young soldier speaking in the semi-darkness about a life devoid of family or a sense of belonging, to a Red Army veteran driven to suicide by disillusionment. The collapsed empires of the "Third Reich" and the Soviet Union live on in these people's traumatic experiences; archival footage from a bygone era is projected onto the uneven walls of train carriages, while the clatter of the trains merges with the sound of the projector.

Der Bahnhof von Brest an der Grenze zwischen Polen und Belarus ist ein geschichtsträchtiger Transitort, gezeichnet durch einige der tiefsten Umbrüche des 20. Jahrhunderts. Einst verlief hier die Molotow-Ribbentrop-Linie, die das überfallene Polen 1939 in ein nationalsozialistisches und ein sowjetisches Besatzungsgebiet aufteilte. Zwei Jahre später wurde der Ort Teil der ersten Front des deutschen Angriffskriegs gegen die Sowjetunion. Vokzal – Bahnhof Brest portraitiert entwurzelte Menschen aus mehreren Generationen: vom jungen Soldaten, der im Halbdunkel von einem Leben ohne Familie und Zugehörigkeit berichtet, bis zum Veteranen der Roten Armee, den die Desillusionierung in den Freitod trieb. Die untergegangenen Imperien des „Dritten Reichs“ und der Sowjetunion leben in ihren traumatischen Erfahrungen fort: Archivmaterial aus den vergangenen Zeiten wird auf die unebenen Wände von Waggonwägen projiziert, während das Rattern der Züge mit dem des Projektors verschmilzt.
