DIE BRUDER KARAMASOFF (1921):

The story of old brawler and drunkard Karamazov and his dissimilar sons, as well as of Grushenka, the prostitute who sows discord in the family. Dmitri Karamazov wants to marry his fiancee, Katerina, but to do so, he needs to deposit 3,000 rublei with his regiment in Moscow. Dmitri doesn't have that much money, however, and therefore travels to his father to ask him for the sum. His father ows his son money, but is unwilling to give it to him. Instead, daddy would rather keep the money and chase after women; especially the beautiful prostitute Grushenka, whom the delusional old fool is convinced he's going to marry.

Erzählt wird die Geschichte vom alten Rauf- und Trunkenbold Karamasoff und seinen ungleichen Söhnen und der Unfrieden in der Familie stiftenden Hure Gruschenka. Dimitri Karamasoff will seine Braut Katharina, genannt Katja, heiraten. Dafür muss er in seinem Moskauer Regiment den Betrag von 3000 Rubel hinterlegen. Dimitri besitzt nicht so viel Geld und reist daher zu seinem Vater, um darum zu bitten, ihm diese Summe zu überlassen. Sein Vater, der seinem Sohn Geld schuldet, ist jedoch dazu nicht bereit. Vielmehr hat der Alte nur Frauen im Sinn. Besonders die hübsche Prostituierte Gruschenka hat es ihm angetan. Er will sie unbedingt heiraten..

DIE GELIEBTE ROSWOLSKYS (1921):

Mary Verhag ain't the youngest chick in the Grand Theater's chorus, but still manages to capture the hearts of many men. Her admirers are hot for her tail, but even the theater's director and conductor are turned away without much ado. Mary really does want to advance her career and make more money, but not via the bedroom. It doesn't help that her coworkers are jealous of her popularity, and this provides the ammunition for the director to fire her. Her subsequent financial distress, which reminds her of the fate of her younger sister Martha --- a poorly-paid teacher --- seems to overwhelming to Mary that she contemplates suicide. So she stands on the bank of a river, wondering whether she should jump in.

Mary Verhag ist eine nicht mehr ganz junge Chorsängerin am Grand Revue Theater, der die Männerherzen zufliegen. Viele Kerle wollen etwas von ihr, doch selbst der Theaterdirektor und der Kapellmeister fangen sich Abfuhren ein. Mary will vor allem Karriere machen und auch gern mehr Geld besitzen, aber nicht auf diese Art. Mit den auf ihre Beliebtheit eifersüchtigen Kolleginnen steht sie sowieso auf Kriegsfuß, und so kommt es eines Tages, dass der Theaterdirektor Mary zu entlassen beabsichtigt. Ihr finanzielles Elend, das sie so sehr an das Schicksal ihrer jüngeren Schwester Martha, einer schlecht bezahlten Lehrerin erinnert, erscheint Mary derart groß, dass sie beabsichtigt, sich das Leben zu nehmen.
