In den Schweizer Bergen ist Andreas Pucher als Jäger tätig. Bei den jungen Frauen im Dorf gilt er als Schürzenjäger und begann bereits kurz nach seiner Beziehung zur Wirtstochter Christa ein Verhältnis mit der Tochter des Bergbauern, Vroni. Die jeweiligen Väter halten nicht viel von Andreas. Eines Tages kommt die Italienerin Manuela Grassi im Dorf an, hat sie doch einen alten Lehnshof geerbt. Andreas, der schon lange einmal das Meer sehen will, möchte mit ihr nach Italien gehen. Er zeigt sich hartnäckig, flirtet zur großen Enttäuschung von Vroni offensiv mit Manuela und steigt sogar nachts in ihr Gasthauszimmer ein, woraufhin beide die Nacht zusammen verbringen. Auch Christa würde Manuela gerne nach Italien begleiten, will sie doch gegen den Willen ihres Vaters Sängerin werden und ist talentiert. Manuela lädt sie ein, sie in Italien zu besuchen; ihre Rückfahrt tritt sie heimlich in Begleitung von Andreas an.  

Andreas Pucher hunts in the Swiss mountains.  But for the young women in the village at the base of the mountains, he's better known for the "hunting" he does at lower elevations.  Shortly after forming a relationship with Christa, the village innkeeper's daughter, he began an affair with Vroni, the daughter of one of the mountain farmers.  Vroni's father doesn't think much of Andreas, for obvious reasons.  One day, an Italian woman --- Manuela Grassi --- arrives  to claim an old castle she's inherited in the village.  After seeing her, Andreas fantasizes about a trip with her to the Italian coastline, a dream he's nurtured for a long time now.  He persistently flirts with the Italian, much to Vroni's disappointment, and even shows up at her hotel room, where the two spend the night together.  Christa would like to accompany Manuela back to Italy, too.  She very much wants to be a singer.  She's got talent, but her dad doesn't want to hear anything of it.  Manuela invites the girl to visit her in Italy; but returns home secretly accompanied by Andreas.
