The inhabitants of a small village in the deepest of Bavaria are horrified: on Sunday, the priest proclaimed that every moral transgression will be reported to all the town's inhabitants via a posted notice at the church. And a first sinner has already been found: The 60-year-old Wegscheidbauer, whose fooling around with his young maid Leni is going to cause quite the scandal. Now everyone in the village is wondering when their turn will come up. Thomas Stangassinger is especially anxious, for, although a married man, he'd begotten a child with another woman, about which his wife knows nothing. Paying a handsome sum, he dumped the unwanted kid on Christian Sussbier without anyone the wiser. Things only become more difficult, however, when his son Toni falls in love with Vevi, the pretty waitress at the "Red Ox". It's complicated, because she's the illegitimate child in question, and so, the wedding between the son and sister must be stopped no-matter-what. The only question is, how will Stangassinger prevent the marriage without spilling the beans and becoming the next target of the church's scarlet letter?

Den Bewohnern eines kleinen Dörfchens im tiefsten Bayern stockt der Atem: Da verkündet der Pfarrer doch sonntags von der Kanzel, dass ab sofort jeder unmoralische Übeltäter durch einen Aushang angeprangert werden soll. Und ein erster Sünder ist bereits gefunden: Der 60-jährige Wegscheidbauer, dessen süßes Techtelmechtel mit seiner blutjungen Magd Leni Folgen hat. Klar, dass die verdutzten Dörfler nun überlegen, wann sie selbst an der Reihe sind. Ganz besonders angst und bange wird es dem Thomas Stangassinger, der - obwohl verheiratet - im Vollrausch ein Kind gezeugt hat. Gegen gutes Geld konnte er es dem intriganten "Saupreiß'n" Christian Süßbier zur Pflege geben, ohne dass seine Frau Therese Wind davon bekommen hat. Problematisch wird die Situation allerdings, als sich ihr Sohn Toni in Vevi, die hübsche Kellnerin des "Roten Ochsen" verliebt. Weil aber die Vevi der uneheliche Spross des alten Stangassinger ist, muss die Hochzeit von Toni und Vevi unbedingt verhindert werden. Aber wie soll der Stangassinger das deichseln, ohne das nächste Opfer einer öffentlichen Brandmarkung zu werden?
