Landowner Kurt Redwitz lost his wife prematurely and now has to raise his two sons, Lutz and Lutte, alone, who seem to enjoy playing practical jokes on people.  When Redwitz hires the young and pretty Bettina to be their tutor, everyone is happy about it.  Above all, the two boys really lover her dearly and have developed impeccable manners.  Only the strict housekeeper Frau Suhrmoller is jealous and reports some village gossip to Redwitz, which claims Bettina has taken the position in the house only with intention of becoming the new Mrs. Redwitz.  Vexed, Redwitz sends Suhrmoller packing; but when Bettina discovers the circumstances behind Frau Suhrmoller’s termination, she leaves the property and takes a position as a society lady at the rest home “Castle Sans Souci”.  Only then does Redwitz slowly realize what Bettina meant to him and his sons try everything to get father and tutor together.

Gutsbesitzer Kurt Redwitz hat früh seine Frau verloren und muss seine beiden Söhne Lutz und Lütte, die immer gern zu Streichen aufgelegt sind, alleine aufziehen. Als Redwitz die junge hübsche Bettina als Erzieherin anstellt, sind alle von ihr begeistert. Vor allem die beiden Jungen lieben sie heiß und innig und zeigen von nun an sogar einwandfreies Benehmen. Nur die strenge Haushälterin Frau Suhrmöller ist eifersüchtig und erzählt Redwitz vom Klatsch im Dorf, der besagt, dass Bettina es nur darauf angelegt habe, Redwitz' Ehefrau zu werden. Redwitz entlässt daraufhin Frau Suhrmöller. Doch als Bettina davon erfährt, verlässt sie das Anwesen und nimmt eine Stelle als Gesellschaftsdame im Erholungsheim "Schloss Sorgenfrei" an. Nun merkt Redwitz so langsam, was er für Bettina empfindet, und seine Söhne versuchen alles, um den Vater und die Erzieherin zusammenzubringen.
