2 DVD SET: THE SECRET WAR

THE SECRET WAR:

2 DVD-set, which I believe ranks right up there with "The World at War."  The series  describes the scientific advances and countermeasures by the British during the Second World War. It contains rare interviews with people who took part in the events described.

DISC ONE:

1. The Battle of the Beams (Runtime: 49 minutes 56 seconds)

How radio beams were used by the German Air Force to guide bombers to their targets, their discovery and the countermeasures employed.

2. To See for a Hundred Miles (Runtime: 50 minutes 30 seconds)

The story of wartime radar as used by both the British and Germans to counter the bomber threat.

3. Terror Weapons (Runtime: 49 minutes 16 seconds)

The story of the V1 and V2, their discovery by the allies and how they were eventually combated.

DISC TWO:

4. If... (Runtime: 49 minutes 54 seconds)

Strange inventions and ideas that might have made an impact on the war.

5. The Deadly Waves (Runtime: 49 minutes 55 seconds)

The battle against the magnetic mine and how it might have won the war before it began.

6. Still Secret (Runtime: 49 minutes 46 seconds)

The story of Enigma and the ultra secret.

7. The Battle of the Atlantic (Runtime: 49 minutes 21 seconds)

The scientific contribution to the battle.

Though the series is dated as well as some of the war information it presents, I believe it still has a very fresh quality to it that will spur you to watch it again and again.

DVD-Ra ARE IN ENGLISH.  APPROXIMATELY 349 MINUTES.  IN VERY GOOD QUALITY.

NOTE:  About 34 minutes into Part II, the film has a rolling line through it for about 10 minutes.  An annoying defect, but the disc is quite watchable.
