Sickly Rosemarie grew up as an orphan at the castle of her father, the prince of Brauneck. When she runs away one Christmas to seek out the Christ child, an estate neighbor, Count Harro von Thorstein, an impoverished nobleman and painter, finds her and a quick and unbreakable friendship forms between the two. In the end, he even marries Rosemarie, but is threatened by Rosemarie’s jealous stepmother, who tries to run the girl down with a car.

Die kränkliche Rosmarie wächst als Halbwaise auf dem Schloss ihres Vaters auf, des Fürsten von Brauneck. Als sie einmal an Weihnachten wegrennt, um das Christkind zu suchen, liest der Gutsnachbar sie auf, Graf Harro von Thorstein, ein verarmter Adliger und Maler, mit dem Rosemarie schnell eine unzertrennliche Freundschaft und innige Liebe verbindet. Schließlich heiraten sie sogar, werden aber von Rosmaries eifersüchtiger Stiefmutter bedroht, die Rosmarie mit ihrem Jagdwagen überfahren will.
