Officially, a masked ball is taking place in the Dresden palace of Count Bruhl. The Prussian ambassador notices, however, that the host has disappeared together with the ambassadors of Austria, Russia and France for a private conversation. In fact, they are joining together in a plot against the soldier-king from Sans Souci. The Prussian ambassador is successful in grabbing a copy of the secret treaty and promptly sends it off to King Friedrich II.

Offiziell findet im Dresdner Palais des Reichsgrafen Brühl nur ein Maskenball statt. Der preußische Gesandte bemerkt allerdings, dass der Gastgeber sich gemeinsam mit den Gesandten Österreichs, Russlands und Frankreichs zu einer Besprechung zurückzieht – sie schmieden ein Komplott gegen den Soldatenkönig von Sanssouci. Es gelingt dem preußischen Gesandten, eine Kopie des Geheimvertrags zu ergattern, die er umgehend König Friedrich II. zukommen lässt.
