THE EAST GERMAN ARMY ON PARADE

EHRENPARADE DER NVA - 40 JAHRESTAG  (1989):

This film shows the last parade of East Germany's NVA (the people's army) in October 1989, at the 40th anniversary celebration of the founding of the DDR.  It is memorable, not only because of the event and the spectacular presentation, but because it marked the visit by Gorbachow to the DDR for the celebration and his now-famous advisory to Honecker, that the USSR would no longer prop up the East German regime and that they might want to start thinking about reforms on their own, if they wanted to be around for another 40 years.  This black and white film should not be missed by any DDR or military enthusiast.  VHS quality, but quite watchable.

Also included on the DVD is a brief, 18 minute documentary of the events on 13 August 1961, when the Berlin Wall was erected, put out by the government of the DDR
Very good quality.
