The novice reporter Greg Bachmann is hired as the representative of the large, international newspaper run by the news baron Cesar Boyd.  In the beginning, the collaboration between the two men couldn't be any better.  Greg learns a lot about sensationalist journalism and how such news is disseminated to make it the most profitable to the news agency.  In Paris, the two men are sufficiently distracted by attractive Bettina to be led astray from the original purpose which brought them to France.  That results in an important task being neglected and Boyd has to come up with a fast story to fulfill his contractual obligation to a Parisian newspaper.  It doesn't take him long to invent a story entitled, "The Bunker People of Gdynia", which quickly turns into a world sensation.  However, no one's aware the story is a work of fiction and when the truth about the article comes to the light of day, Boyd shoves the blame for the disaster onto Greg, whereupon the disgusted apprentice distances himself from his mentor in disgust.
