Der erste Ufa-Tonspielfilm erzählt die Geschichte des Bauernmädchens Julia Balog, das in Budapest eine Stellung als Dienstmagd gefunden hat. Sie verliebt sich in den Honved-Husaren János Garas, der auf ein Pferd spart, um damit später ein Transportgeschäft zu gründen. Als Julia ihre Stellung verliert, gerät sie in die Fänge der Zimmervermittlerin Czibulka, die Julia eine "Stellung" in einem Bordell verschafft. Als János, angestachelt von seinen Kameraden, das Freudenhaus besucht und Julia erblickt, nimmt die Tragödie ihren Lauf.

The first UfA sound film tells the story of the peasant girl Julia Balog, who found a job as a maid in Budapest.  She falls in love with the Honved-Hussar Janos Garas, who is saving up to buy a horse, so he can open a moving company in the future.  When Julia loses her job, she falls into the clutches of the room renter Czibulka, who finds Julia a “position” in a brothel.  When Janos, egged on by his comrades, visits the house of ill repute and sees Julia there, the tragedy takes its course.
