Shortly before her death, Anna's mother confides to the ship's doctor, Dr. Toni Bruck, that one of his three friends from his Bavarian hometown is Anna's father. She makes him promise to take care of Anna. And so, Toni moves with Anna back to his hometown in Bavaria. There, he comes into possession of some property, on which there is graphite and the farmers and villagers eye him with jealous envy. But when Toni's friends come by to help him with the graphite mining, he succeeds in persuading them to cooperate. Eventually, Anna's father reveals his identity and Toni realizes that father and daughter belong together.

Kurz vor ihrem Tod vertraut Annas Mutter dem Schiffsarzt Dr. Toni Bruck an, dass einer seiner drei Freunde aus seinem bayrischen Heimatdorf Annas Vater ist. Sie nimmt ihm das Versprechen ab, sich um Anna zu kümmern. Und so zieht Toni mit Anna zurück in seine bayrische Heimat. Dort gelangt er in den Besitz eines Grundstücks, auf dem sich Graphit befindet, woraufhin sich Bauern und Dorfbewohner eifersüchtig gegen ihn stellen. Doch als Tonis Freunde beim Graphitabbau mithelfen, gelingt es ihnen, die Bauern umzustimmen und zur Mitarbeit zu bewegen. Auch Annas Vater gibt sich zu erkennen, und Toni erkennt, dass er und Anna zusammengehören
