Vera, die Frau eines amerikanischen Millionärs Clarkson, verliebt sich in Gerard, den Sekretär ihres Mannes. Dieser jedoch beginnt aber ein weiteres Verhältnis mit der Tochter eines reichen Kaufmanns, Catherine. Nach lauter Eifersüchteleien erschießt Clarkson den Grafen von Detmond, der Catherine inzwischen geheiratet hat. Erst jetzt erkennt Vera die tiefe Liebe ihres Mannes zu ihr und trennt sich für immer von Gerard. 

Vera, the wife of the American millionaire Clarkson, falls in love with Gerard, her husband’s private secretary.  Gerhard, however, is beginning a relationship with Catherin, the daughter of a rich merchant.  After a loud argument caused by jealousy, Clarkson shoots Count von Detmond, whom Catherine has married in the interim.  Only now does Vera recognize the deep love her husband has for her and separates forever from Gerhard.
