Der Klosterjäger Haymo verliebt sich in die schöne Gittli. Deren Bruder Wolfrat ist völlig verarmt und kann seine Zinsen an den Klostervogt nicht mehr bezahlen. Der gutmütige Wolfrat ist so in die Enge getrieben, dass er zum Wilddieb wird und im Gebiet des Propstes einen Steinbock erlegt. Haymo stellt den Dieb und wird von diesem niedergestochen. Gittli pflegt den Schwerverletzten, worauf dieser ihr verspricht, ihren Bruder nicht zu verraten. Doch der Propst hat eine Untersuchung des Falles bereits eingeleitet.

The cloister hunter Haymo is in love with beautiful Gittli.  Her brother Wolfrat is completely destiture and can no longer pay rent to the monastery.  In fact, good-natured Wolfrat has been pushed so far into desperation, that he becomes a poacher and kills an ibex on the provost’s territory.  Haymo nabs the theif and is stabbed by him.  Gittli cares for the seriously wounded man, for which the man promises not to betray her brother.  Unfortunately, the provost has already launched an investigation into the case.
