At night in the port of Hamburg. While on board a luxury yacht owned by the American millionaire Patterson a masked ball is taking place with a magnificent fireworks display, the harbor policeman Hans roder, known as the "Daredevil", has pulled an unconscious woman from the water. He is then attacked by an unknown assailant, however, who takes the girl away with him. Hans follows the man on his motorcycle and sees him disappear in the "American Hipodrome", a place well known as a hangout for gangsters. In the meantime, during the masked ball on the yacht, a valuable piece of pearl jewellry has been stolen and Hans takes over the investigation. At the Hippodrome, he gets to know Trude, who is hoping to one day become a famous singer. She is the girl he pulled out of the water. And although he has yet to figure out how she's involved in the jewellry theft and other sinister machinations, he falls in love with her.

Nachts im Hamburger Hafen. Während auf der Luxusyacht des amerikanischen Millionärs Patterson ein Maskenfest mit prächtigem Feuerwerk stattfindet, zieht der Hafenpolizist Hans Röder, genannt der "Draufgänger", ein bewusstloses Mädchen aus dem Wasser. Aber dann wird er von einem Unbekannten überfallen, der das Mädchen mit sich nimmt. Hans folgt dem Mann auf dem Motorrad und sieht ihn im "American Hippodrom" verschwinden, in dem sich allerlei Gangster herumtreiben. Inzwischen wird bekannt, dass während des Maskenfestes auf der Yacht ein wertvoller Perlenschmuck gestohlen wurde, und Hans übernimmt die Nachforschungen. Im "American Hippodrom" lernt er die Animierreiterin Trude kennen, die hofft, eine berühmte Sängerin zu werden. Sie ist das Mädchen, das er aus dem Wasser gezogen hat. Obwohl er noch nicht herausgefunden hat, wie sie in den Perlendiebstahl und andere finstere Machenschaften verwickelt ist, verliebt er sich in sie.
