DAS WERDEN DES HEERES (The Making of the Wehrmacht) (1936)

DVD documentary about the creation of the new Wehrmacht in the new Germany.  In March 1935, a general mobilization and universal conscription was introduced in Germany in violation of the Versailles Treaty of 1919.  This became a cause celebre among many of the German people, who took pride in the country's rearmament and saw the event as confirmation that Germany was once again becoming a world power. Using source work from 1936, this film traces the development, training, everyday life, use of the Wehrmacht and its place among the general population, including scenes taken from public domain films showing the military's participation in the 1936 Olympic games.  For anyone wanting to know what it was like to be a part of the German Army from enlistment to training to going out on the weekend pass, this movie is for you!

LOTS OF MARCHING AND MILITARY MUSIC!

Due to the fact that these films are almost 70 years old, the quality of this DVD varies.  There is some flickering and contrast variations.  I would rate the overall movie as VHS quality; though this has nothing to do with the transfer, but rather the source materials.  The sound, however, is very good.

70 minutes long.

In German.  NO SUBTITLES.
