The approaching end of the Second World War in Czechoslovakia is the backdrop for this psychological drama studying the transformation of fear into hatred. A peasant's husband is hanged by the Germans for stealing a few bags of cement. That very same day, two German deserters, unaware of what transpired, show up at her door and compel her to transport them to the Austrian border in her horse-drawn wagon. Throughout the seemingly never-ending journey through dark and gloomy forests toward Znojmo, the woman never stops looking for ways to kill her passengers and avenge her husband's death. Ultimately, she is incapable of carrying out her sworn plan and instead finds solace in the embrace of the terrified, young soldier. In the end, though, the reality of war will overcome both of them in its expected, tragic ways.

Komorní psychologické drama osvědčené autorské dvojice je křehkou studií o přerodu strachu až do nenávisti. Na pomstu připravená Krista, kterou dva němečtí vojáci na sklonku války přinutí, aby je svým vozem dovezla k rakouské hranici, den poté, co Němci oběsili jejího muže, nakonec nedokáže nepřítele zabít a zoufalou útěchu najde v objetí vyděšeného mladičkého vojáka (nesnesitelně dlouho živené napětí explodovalo do nečekaně lidského, milostného sblížení).
