3 DVD SET: DIE FRONTSCHAU FILMS - THE WAR IN THE EAST

DIE FRONTSCHAU # 1

Gebirgsjager fight for a village in eastern Poland:  Occupied by the Soviet Union in the fall of 1939, the former Kresy of Poland  (now part of Belarus and Ukraine) were the first areas to be overrun in the first invading days of June 1941.  In this 27 minute clip, we see the tactics and struggles of a mountain unit in their quest to wrestle a former Polish village from Soviet defenders;

Men and tanks to the front!:  15 minute clip deals with an assault by infantry and tanks against a Soviet unit nestled deep in a village and waiting for them;

An inspection of Soviet fortifications:  This 15 minute film deals with the fortifications of the "Stalin Line" and gives the viewer not only detailed information about its construction and how each fortification functioned, but practical advice, too, in how to deal with the confronting of other fortifications on the Eastern Front.

DIE FRONTSCHAU # 2

Vorwarts!:  This 15 minute film traces the advance of the Wehrmacht into Russia in the early, heady days of 1941.  Along the way, a review of the right and wrong ways to advance are covered  (aren't YOU embarrassed they used you as an example for the wrong way?!?);

Infantry on the attack:  This rather short, 10 minute clip deals with an attack by German soldiers against Soviet defenders.  Exciting, though;

Dealing with the USSR in winter and spring:  A 22 minute film covering in detail the difficulties and heartbreak of traversing Russia in both spring and winter conditions.  The scenes shown are enough to make you personally understand the words of one Wehrmacht soldier, who, upon finding out the War was not going to end in 1942, said, "Are we really going to have to suffer through another one of those dreadful Russian winters?!".

DIE FRONTSCHAU # 3

Camouflage and Quarter Construction: 25 minute film dealing with the construction, maintenance and camouflaging of barracks, quarters and strongholds;

Negotiating Ice Floes and Frozen Water:  15 minute clip about travelling in Russia on frozen waterways, as well as how to deal with disposing of ice that threaten the stability of bridges;

Defensive Combat in northern Russia:  Short, 14 minute piece about Leningrad in the winter of 1942/1943 as German soldiers defend themselves against a Russian offensive.
