Max is a harmless, petty thief with a big heart. On the run from the police, he takes refuge in a guest room of Ilse’s. Nevertheless, he ends up having to spend three days in jail. While there, he makes the acquaintance of Bruno, who doesn’t want to depart from his new acquaintance, even after they’re released. Ilse, who’s been kicked out of her place by the landlord on Max’s account, has become a beauty queen in the meantime. Max isn’t able to get in touch with her, however, because Bruno, who has sworn lifelong friendship with Max, always finds a way to prevent their meeting. (Hmmmm … just how friendly did they get in prison?!?)

Max ist ein harmloser Kleinganove mit großem Herzen. Auf der Flucht vor der Polizei rettet er sich in das Zimmer von Ilse, die ihn für ihren Freund ausgibt. Dennoch muß er drei Tage absitzen. Im Gefängnis macht er die Bekanntschaft Brunos, der ihm auch nach der Entlassung nicht von den Fersen weicht. Ilse, die von ihrer Wirtin wegen Max an die Luft gesetzt wurde, wird derweil Schönheitskönigin, Max kann aber nicht zu ihr vordringen, weil Bruno, der ihm Freundschaft fürs Leben geschworen hat, dies immer verhindert.

· Sharpness of picture? - very good quality film overall. Interestingly enough, both the shade of the black-and-white film and the film quality change throughout the film!
