Für viele Kinder im zerstörten Berlin wird die Trümmerlandschaft zum Abenteuerspielplatz. Gustavs Vater kehrt als physisches und psychisches Wrack aus der Kriegsgefangenschaft zurück und wird zum Gespött der Kinder. Mit einer Mutprobe will Gustav die Ehre seines Vaters wieder herstellen.

For many of the children in destroyed Berlin, the landscape of ruins and rubble are little more than a place of adventure, where they can play at war.  Gustav’s father returns home from captivity as a physical and psychological wreck and becomes a laughing stock for the children. Gustav courageously attempts to get back his father’s honor.
