Veracruz, 1938. "Le Rital", a tough French hit man, agrees to serve Mexican revolutionaries who want to replace the current President with "Chico", an insecure young bourgeois they intend to manipulate. The killing of the President is to take place in a small town whose "great lady", Camito, is an alluring former thespian and the despot's mistress. Things go according to plan when the President imprudently pays the lady a visit without his guard. "Le Rital" just has to pull the trigger and the mission's achieved. But to no avail, actually, as the revolutionaries prove unable to take advantage of the situation. Worse, the country's fallen into the hands of a double-dealing general. In the end, the hitman leaves Mexico for new adventures without anybody knowing that, deep inside himself, he is a broken man.

Der französische Profikiller Rital erhält den Auftrag, den Präsidenten eines lateinamerikanischen Landes zu ermorden. Das Attentat soll in der Sommerresidenz der berühmten Schauspielerin Camito stattfinden. Der abgebrühte Auftragsmörder ahnt, dass dieser Job für ihn gefährlich wird, lässt sich jedoch nichts anmerken. Zusammen mit dem jungen Volkshelden Chico, der nach dem Mord als Marionette an der Staatsspitze stehen soll, wartet Rital auf seinen Einsatz. Nach dem Attentat wird Rital selbst zum Gejagten, denn die Auftraggeber wollen den gefährlichen Mitwisser eliminieren. Doch Rital ist seinen Häschern stets einen Schritt voraus.
