Ludwig Leidinger is the proud owner of a model farm, beautifully situated in Bainingen. Only he forgot all about the work that goes trying to find a wife and to marry her. Consequently, he also has no children, which is the reason why he promised both his nephews, that he’d help them out should they decide one day to start a family. Peter is an agricultural student and is engaged to Inge Thiele, who runs a typewriter office, while Paul works as a legal assessor, which doesn’t please the father of his girflfriend, Marianne. Marianne’s father can’t stand anyone associated with the legal profession and is thus against their being together. And so, to separate his daughter from Paul, he sends her on a trip, not suspecting that instead of going off to Italy, she secretly journeys to Bainingen to visit Paul.

Ludwig Leidinger ist stolzer Besitzer eines herrlich gelegenen Mustergutes in Bainingen. Nur hat er über all die Arbeit, die in so einem Hof steckt, vergessen, sich eine Frau zu suchen und zu heiraten. Folglich hat er auch keine Kinder, weshalb er seinen beiden Neffen versprochen hat, ihnen unter die Arme zu greifen, sollten sie eines Tages eine Familie gründen. Peter ist Student der Landwirtschaft und mit Inge Thiele verlobt, die ein Schreibmaschinenbüro führt, während Paul als Gerichts-Assessor arbeitet, was dem Vater seiner Freundin Marianne gar nicht gefällt. Mariannes Vater kann "Gerichts-Personen" überhaupt nicht ausstehen und ist daher gegen die Bindung. Um seine Tochter von Paul zu trennen, schickt er sie auf Reisen, nicht ahnend, dass sie statt nach Italien heimlich nach Bainingen fährt, um Paul zu besuchen.
