The jeweler Curt Nickel is being followed by bad luck: when he proposes to replace the aristocrat Hahenkamp's valuables with imitations, he accidentally swallows the most valuable diamond in the bunch. Snobbish aristocrats, honest citizens and obtuse gangsters are suddenly fighting over the penniless man, who is now worth a lot ... dead or alive. For his part, however, Curt would rather spend his time with his Dolly dancing a little Rumba.

Juweliersgeselle Curt Nickel ist vom Pech verfolgt: Als er für die vornehme Adele Hahnenkamp ihre Pretiosen durch Imitationen ersetzen soll, verschluckt er versehentlich den wertvollsten Diamanten. Versnobte Adlige, biedere Bürger und begriffsstutzige Gangster schlagen sich um den plötzlich begehrenswerten Habenichts, der jedoch viel lieber mit seiner Dolly eine kleine Rumba tanzen will.
