Stefan Burgstaller decides to become a musician, much against the wishes of his adoptive father. He goes to Salzburg, where his girlfriend Veronika is already attending the conservatorium. Stefan wants to be accepted at the school and, in fact, is so talented, he receives a scholarship. Thus, the way is paved for a carefree student life, which Stefan enjoys to the fullest. He’s much liked by all, but he’s got the hots for the waitress Anna, who works in the local musicians’ bar “Zur Bassgeige”.

Gegen den Willen seines Adoptivvaters entschließt sich Stefan Burgstaller, Musiker zu werden. Er geht nach Salzburg, wo bereits seine Freundin Veronika das Konservatorium besucht. Auch Stefan wird auf der Schule angenommen und bekommt wegen seiner außerordentlichen Begabung sogar ein Stipendium. Damit ist der Weg geebnet für ein sorgenfreies Studentenleben, das Stefan in vollen Zügen genießt. Überall ist der lebenslustige Bursche beliebt, doch besonders hat er es offenbar der etwas älteren Kellnerin Anna angetan, die in dem Musikerlokal "Zur Bassgeige" arbeitet.
