Das Geschäft läuft nicht so recht im Gasthaus zur „Blauen Traube“, deshalb schlägt der Wirt Xaver Rößmair dem Gemeinderat vor, ein Theater zu gründen - Aufführungsort soll natürlich die „Blaue Traube“ sein. Damit man kein Geld für teure Schauspieler ausgeben muss, hat Rößmair die Idee, einfach ein paar Einheimische zu besetzen. Die sind ganz begeistert von der Aussicht auf den „großen Ruhm“, und außerdem macht es doch gehörig Spaß, auf der Bühne die Dorfschönheiten küssen zu „müssen“.

Business isn’t going so well at the inn “The Blue Grape”, so the innkeeper Xavier Rossmaier recommends to the city council that the inn be converted into a theater.  And since the money’s not there for expensive actors, Rossmaier has the brilliant idea to fill the roles with locals.  The locals, for their part, are excited about the prospect of bring glory and farme upon themselves; and besides, there’s sure to be lots of fun having to kiss the local beauties on stage.
