Un tipo balzano, infermiere e uomo "tutto fare" nella clinica pediatrica di un medico suo fratello di latte, si è innamorato di una collega. Per interessarla egli si finge un dongiovanni assillato da lettere e premure di ammiratrici. Ma questa sua mania avventurosa lo spinge un bel giorno effettivamente nel dramma. Casualmente trovato presso il corpo di una donna uccisa egli, per una infinità di indizi, è accusato di omicidio. Il processo, anche per l'abilità dell'istrionico difensore, assume una popolarità immensa. Quando il mattacchione è assolto, passa senz'altro sul palcoscenico, scritturato per organizzare una rivista che ricostruisca coreograficamente il suo dramma. Ma il vero assassino, comparendo all'ultimo momento, rovina l'effetto scenico. L'innocente, per ciò stesso decadendo dall'interesse morboso del pubblico, si allontana e cerca conforto nel fedele affetto della sua collega infermiera. 

A paramedic with an overactive imagination --- and an incredible resemblance to Pee Wee Herman in both looks and demeanor --- invents an incredible story to win the attention of a nurse.  Unfortunately, he soon ends up the victim of his own fantasies when he's found next to a murdered corpse and accused of the crime.  He goes on trial -- a sensation covered in all the newspapers -- and is acquitted, but asked to act in a play telling his story.  But unfortunately for him again, the real killer shows up and ruins the show, drawing everyone's attention away from him.  Depressed by his short-lived fame and now completely ignored by the media, he seeks consolation in the arms of the very person this whole thing started over:  the nurse.
