The Wurttembergian socio-economist Friedrich List is a passionate fighter for the construction of railways and a unifying of the customs tariffs between states, because there are still barriers to free trade (literally and figuratively) at the borders of the 36 German states.  He lashes out continuously against the aristocracy and bureaucracy.  His greatest enemy is Metternich.
