Erst unter den Klängen von "Preußens Gloria" verwandelt sich der vor 1914 einberufene Astronom Dr. Breitner in einen "richtigen Kerl", d. h. in einen richtigen Draufgänger und forschen Schürzenjäger. Sein Stubenältester steht ihm dabei Modell. Hauptmann und Feldwebel sind blöde, aber letzten Endes harmlose Kommistypen, und Manöverübungen sind nicht mehr als sportliche Freiluftveranstaltungen!

Only with the sounds of „Preussens Gloria“ does the astronomer Dr. Breitner turn into a “real man” in 1914 with the outbreak of war.  He now turns into a real go-getter and an incredible womanizer.  His barracks elder becomes the example to follow.  The captain and sergeant are morons, but in the end, harmless conformists.  Maneuvers turn out to be nothing more than open air sporting events!
