In einem Mietwagen bricht Familie Petermann in den Urlaub Richtung Italien auf. Was weder Papa Max noch seine Frau Brigitte oder die Kinder Monika, Stupsi und Andi ahnen: Durch ein Versehen hat eine Ganovenbande wertvolle Papiere in ihrem Auto versteckt. Nun heftet sich das Gauner-Quartett unter Leitung des gerissenen "Direktors" an die Fersen der Urlauber und setzt alles daran, die Geheimpapiere zurückzubekommen. Das ist allerdings leichter gesagt als getan, und so beginnt eine ebenso abenteuerliche wie turbulente Verfolgungsjagd quer durch Südeuropa. 

The Petermann family rents a car and takes off for a vacation in Italy.  What papa Max, his wife Brigitte, and the kids Monika, Stupsi and Andi don’t suspect is that through an oversight, crooks have hidden valuable papers in their car.  Now this quartet of crooks, under the direction of their ‘director’, is on the heels of the vacationers and will do anything to get those papers back.  That’s easier said than done, however; and an equally adventurous as turbulent chase takes place all the way across southern Europe.
