Im Schweizer Kanton Graubünden wird in der Nähe einer Waldstraße ein ermordetes Mädchen aufgefunden. Die Tat erregt großes Aufsehen, denn zwei ähnliche Morde, die vor einigen Jahren verübt worden waren, konnten bisher noch nicht aufgeklärt werden. Der bettelarme Hausierer Jacquier wird der Tat verdächtigt, obwohl er selbst die Polizei auf die Leiche des Mädchens aufmerksam gemacht hatte. Im Gegensatz zu Kommissar Henzi ist Kommissar Matthäi von Jacquiers Unschuld überzeugt. 

In the Swiss Canton of Graubunden, a murdered child is found in the forest close to the road.  The murder draws especially close attention, because two similar murders from recent years could not be solved.  The dirt-poor peddler Jacquier is suspected of committing the murders, although it was he, who led the police to the body.  Unlike commissioner Henzi, commission Matthai is convinced of Jacquier’s innocence.
