Young and naive Katherine falls head over heels in love with handsome novelist Philip. When she discovers that she was only a throwaway toy for him, she thinks it best to commit suicide. Fortunately, her life is saved at the last moment by the village teacher, Stefan Unger. In the following weeks, he cares for the still-injured woman, who now finally realizes where she belongs.
